Writers routines

It is really interesting to me and I believe, to many others, to know writers routines when they are working. Do they have a 9 to 5 schedule or they work just at night? They listen to music? They take notes, they go into a special place where no family or social life is allowed or they are normal like the rest of us?

On dailyroutines we can find some examples and a few interviews with writers. Some of them I know, others not really but in the end I read almost all of them just by curiosity.Image shows Benjamin Franklin scheme of his daily routine (via ffffound). Like this a LOT:P

Some examples:

Stephen King

"There are certain things I do if I sit down to write,” he said. “I have a glass of water or a cup of tea. There’s a certain time I sit down, from 8:00 to 8:30, somewhere within that half hour every morning,” he explained. “I have my vitamin pill and my music, sit in the same seat, and the papers are all arranged in the same places. The cumulative purpose of doing these things the same way every day seems to be a way of saying to the mind, you’re going to be dreaming soon."

James Thurber

"I never quite know when I’m not writing. Sometimes my wife comes up to me at a party and says, “Dammit, Thurber, stop writing.” She usually catches me in the middle of a paragraph. Or my daughter will look up from the dinner table and ask, “Is he sick?” “No,” my wife says, “he’s writing something.” I have to do it that way on account of my eyes. I still write occasionally—in the proper sense of the word—using black crayon on yellow paper and getting perhaps twenty words to the page. My usual method, though, is to spend the mornings turning over the text in my mind. Then in the afternoon, between two and five, I call in a secretary and dictate to her. I can do about two thousand words. It took me about ten years to learn."

How interesting and wonderful is this? It's so cool to know how artists work, how their inner worlds work, how they function.

More about writers and other artists, philosophers and a lot more at dailyroutines :)

Sink

I do love this sink and this is a good solution when you have those connected to the floor and instead of having the plumber destroying you wall to hide the pipes you can have this. I never saw this solution before and have no idea how hard it is to make it. But you can always show the picture and maybe they'll do it for you.

Coffee Break

Don't you love the perfume of the coffee in the mornings or in a winter afternoon? Or even in a lazy Sunday while playing table games with friends (yeah I have this fantasy:P)

Workspace

I like messy workspaces because it's like having your creativity flow free. The "white canvas" can be too scary and oppressing. The problem in this room for me? Too difficult to clean the dust:PThis is the workspace of Kate Bingaman-Burt, an artist from Oregon, Portland. Go to her website at Obsessive Consumption. She is truly original:)

Brooklyn Studio

This is the studio from the artists of the previous post. They maintain the industrial vibe while transforming it into a creative and comfortable place great to experiment.
These white big letters above are from a Saatchi project from Mike Perry and you can find some of those inside their apartment too.
How cool is to have real space to work on your projects? Oh I should definitely be more organized and control clutter:P
Would you like to work in a space like this? =D

Brooklyn apartment

This is the apartment from two Brooklin artists. It was featured at Design*Sponge in February but somehow I missed it.
I like the neutrals with de colours and the 50's vibe. The wood also makes it cosy and inviting. I just wonder if their grey sofa is comfortable enough, but they say they don't spend much time in this room, so it doesn't seem a big deal for them.
It's a normal house with personal objects and a life of it's own. Who doesn't like this?

Do you like this house? Why?

"My secret to a happy marriage"

Pancakes for breakfast are the secret to a happy marriage. (Pancakes for breakfast are the secret to a happy anything actually.)

My husband and I make pancakes for breakfast on the weekend at least once a fortnight. First, they're delicious and sharing something delicious makes people happy. Second, once you've covered them in maple syrup and blueberries and occasionally ice cream, they feel kind of naughty, and when you each feel like a 7-year-old who is doing something that they really hope the adults don't find out about, that too is good stuff. But mostly it's the simple fact that you can't rush a pancake; pancakes take time, and time spent together is of course the ultimate secret to a happy marriage.

New curved wood floor

Trough Apartment Therapy I got to know this amazing floor. It looks so natural and interesting with the natural contours of the wood. SAnd the natural wood knots and mormal imperfections remain. This floor is from a company called Waldilla.

Bedroom II

Like the concept with the frames and the heart photos but just too white for me. What about you?

Bedroom

This is a different aproach to a bedroom colour palette. Dark walls and white floor gives a cosy and calm feeling. Really like the purple bed cover and the art on the wall.

Kitchen & Living room

I think I found the perfect floor for my kitchen=D
The same house, but the living room. Love the sofa and the cushions. The bookcase is full of stuff but because it's white and fits the walls looks totally tidy and organized.

Art display

This is such an interesting idea! Art on walls doesn't have to be rocket science =D

Worlds within worlds

Sometimes we think we know but we really have no idea. Each one of us has a different story, there are worlds inside any single person and we are arrogant to think we figure it out. Some worlds are more simple than others but we never really know, do we?

Complicate or don't complicate is the question. But normally we don't have a choice. Respect the differences even when you don't understand others interior worlds.

Some people are open books, others behave like impenetrable walls, but either way don't assume you know what's going on. If you need answers just ask. Sometimes we don't because we are afraid of the answers we might get but that's it or staying in the dark with all the pain that may bring.Though, if you don't like the answer or if you just don't understand it don't hang on to it like that's an excuse to stay and ask for more while trying to hear what you want. Those magical answers or words may never come and you should not relay on somebody else to have peace of mind or happiness.

White apartment II

I never really like dark sofas o furniture but could easily compromise with these ones. The white floor also looks great, it makes me think of silk:P
No curtains and plants around the house near windows:) Oh and the fireplace :D
